2022 - 2023: A Year in Review

The 2022 - 2023 year was especially special, with students returning to the Queen’s campus for full in-person learning for the first time in two years. QSIA made the most of it, making its return with events that brought Queen’s students from all different programs and backgrounds together to learn more about social impact within different careers. Here is a recap of all of the amazing events and activities planned by QSIA last year! You don’t want to miss them next year!

Social Internship Program Taster

During this event, members of the SIP program listened to presentations from QSIA’s various organization partners, such as Win This Fight, Alm, Pathways to Education, Immigrant Services and Youth Diversion speak about their social impact work. Members also got to participate in a Kahoot game, enjoy some pizza, and network with the partner representatives!

W4SI Day One

Weekend for Social Impact is QSIA’s largest event of the year! W4SI 2023 was new for QSIA, as the club combined its historically biggest two events into one weekend of action packed fun and events. At this conference, delegates had the opportunity to listen to panelists from the Kingston Propel Impact Fund, Brookfield Asset Management and Sick Kids about their organizations and the career paths available within them. Delegates also had the opportunity to meet with like minded students across all faculties at Queen’s, who want to explore changemaking in their prospective careers! Students engaged in fun activities like a recycling tower building challenge, and digital activities as well while enjoying great food and company.

W4SI C4C Day Two

On the second day of W4SI, QSIA also held Consulting for a Cause–an event where delegates compete in a social impact-related case competition. This time, delegates, in groups of X students and X number of competing teams, were given cases pertaining to companies EY or Fusion Consulting, and they were required to present their solutions in front of representatives from those firms. After the winners were announced, while enjoying food from Miss Bao, students had the opportunity to network with firm representatives from the weekend to hear more about their firms!

Just-in-Time Hiring Workshop

At this workshop, Kelly James from the Career Advancement Centre gave a presentation about finding internships that are related to social impact, and how students can maximize their chances of landing these innovative roles in their resumes and interviews. Kelly has a background in HR, social impact and provided ample information for students based off of her experiences and time working for the CAC.  This was a phenomenal opportunity for students who were beginning the process of finding internships for the summer!

As First-Year Representative, I had an amazing time planning and participating in these events. The club’s welcoming culture and drive for inspiring others has made me even more excited to work as Digital Strategy Coordinator. QSIA can’t wait to put on more of these events for you next year!
